Rothamsted Research Case Study Title Image

About This Project:

With Rothamsted Research expanding its use of perchloric acid, the company required a series of polypropylene fume extraction systems to pacify its explosive properties. However, due to the danger posed by this volatile material, our specialist installation engineers must ensure that all the necessary safety measures and precautions have been taken.

About this case study:

Brief
Rothamsted Research required a combination of ducted fume extraction and wash-down scrubbers for a multi-story research facility in the heart of their Harpenden headquarters. The main challenges are accessibility and installation.
Solution
In total, we delivered five wash-down fume cupboards, and one general-use ducted fume cupboard built from corrosion-proof polypropylene. We used a scaffolding lift to remove the third-story window and start the installation.
Outcome
The fume cupboards performed as expected, providing a safe and secure environment for Rothamsted Research to conduct its perchloric acid testing. The wash-down system, in particular, proved highly effective at dealing with perchloric acid.
Summary
Our delivery and installation teams coordinated their efforts to ensure the scaffolding, window removal, and ductwork were finished on time. This project highlights our ability to handle complex installations in challenging environmental conditions.
